Entry description:
Greece has more than 15,000 kilometers (9,320 miles) of coastline, 200,000 beaches, 6,000 islands and islets. Greece's coastline is by far the longest coastline in the Mediterranean sea, and the tenth longest in the world. The deepest point in the Mediterranean Sea is called the "Calypso Deep", it is located in the Ionian Sea in Greece, and is 5,267 meters deep (17,280 feet). The quality of bathing waters in Greece is systematically monitored since 1988 (according to Directive 76/160/EEC), and since then Greece has been receiving excellent reports on it's bathing water sites, with more than 95% of them meeting the most stringent guide values (excellent quality).About 80% of Greece consists of mountains or hills, thus making Greece one of the most mountainous countries of Europe. Mount Olympus is the highest point of Greece and the fourth highest in relative topographical prominence in Europe, rising to 2,919 meters (9,576 feet) above sea level. Almost one fourth of Greece's area (25.5% or 3,359,000 hectares) is covered by forests, primarily natural and of high ecological value. Another 23.9% (3,154,000 hectares) is covered by woodlands or forested lands.Greece's climate is divided into three classes: Mediterranean, alpine and temperate. Greek summers are usually hot and dry, and the winters can be quiet cold and wet. The upper part of the country can be very cold during the winter and snow is not uncommon. However, for the south and the islands, the winters are milder. During the winter much of Greece may have snow, and much snowfall can be expected in the higher mountains. Greece enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine a year.Disclaimer: I do not own any of the content presented in this video. All content belongs to its rightful owners.
